CLASS DESCRIPTION:
The pre-kindergarten curriculum emphasizes kindergarten readiness skills while still maintaining a “whole child” philosophy. Pre-reading and pre-math skills are taught through small group activities and play. All subjects are integrated across the curriculum. The main goal of the pre-kindergarten class at Kids of the Kingdom Day School is to prepare children to be self-confident students who love learning. The maximum enrollment for the pre-kindergarten class is 15 students.
Both phonemic and phonological awareness are emphasized in the class, leading to reading. Students are encouraged to practice letter and letter sound recognition through stories, games and songs.
Pre-math skills, such as counting, one to one correspondence, sorting, and patterning building are also practiced. Fine motor skills are developed by writing with pencils, pens and markers and also using scissors. Linking toys, Legos, etc. will also be used to assist with developing small motor skills. Gross motor skills are encouraged through movement to music, games and outdoor play.
Students in pre-kindergarten will also have a circle time each day, where they will discuss the days and dates, practice counting and share ideas and plans with the teacher. Learning centers include a library center, a role-playing center and a computer center. The teacher will adjust her plans and the classroom to meet the needs and interests of the students.
The pre-kindergarten class will also have chapel time once a week in the church sanctuary, with Miss Bev, who is a member of the congregation. General, non-denominational Christian values such as kindness, love and forgiveness will be taught through Bible stories, songs and example. The children will learn of God’s love for them and for others.

Meet the Teachers:
Miss Ann:
I have been married for 26 years, and I have two daughters ages 23 and 19. I am very active in our church. In the past, I have helped to provide the children sermons during worship and lead the Operation Christmas Child Outreach Project. I have taught Sunday school, lead the youth group, helped with the children's choir and directed the Christmas pageant. I also enjoy watching my children participate in their various activities. I graduated from Bloomsburg University in 1993 with a B.S. in Education. I have worked with many different age groups; however, I am beginning my 16th year teaching pre-k, and I love it! I feel so blessed to be given the opportunity to be a part of your child's life. Each student that I have in class will forever hold a special place in my heart!

Miss Lori:
I have lived in Lewisburg all my life. I have 2 children. I graduated from Lewisburg Area High School and Pennsylvania College of Technology. I have worked with children for 13 years. I also work at the YMCA in Lewisburg. I enjoy walking, swimming, and word search puzzles. I am looking forward to working with Miss Ann in the PreK class. |
Miss Kim:
Everyone knows how much I love Kids of the Kingdom. I am so proud to be back this year teaching. My family moved to Lewisburg about 10 years ago with my husband's job with Sara Lee, now BBU Bakery, in Northumberland and we have been so blessed to be part of this community. You may know me from my time here as a mom helping out or as teacher at Kids in the Garden at the library every summer or from teaching Grow It camp this summer at the children's museum. My family are active members of St. Paul's UMC in Lewisburg and spend our time volunteering with VBS and other ministries there. My daughter is now going into 7th grade and is a proud 2012 graduate of Kids of the Kingdom. My son just rocked his first year at Kelly Elementary after spending all three years here learning to be kind, a listener, and a learner in the classroom. So happy to help all the staff, Miss Ann and Miss Michele, prepare your little one to succeed in Kindergarten just the way mine did.
